ISTD Technology and Remediation Equipment

Remediation equipment used in In-situ Thermal Desorption (ISTD) is the key to the simultaneous application of heat by thermal conduction and vacuum to contaminated soil. ISTD is a robust, field-proven remediation technology that has been demonstrated to be capable of remediating the full range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) to levels at or below typical regulatory agency clean-up standards. Among the many applicable SVOCs are PCBs and dioxins. Among the VOCs are CVOCs such as PCE. TerraTherm is the exclusive, worldwide licensee of the ISTD family of technologies.

TerraTherm's ISTD remediation equipment and technology has been demonstrated to be able to achieve very high DREs and very low treatment levels for both SVOCs such as PCBs and VOCs such as PCE. The ability of ISTD technology to predictably heat soil to the desired treatment temperatures and the significant enhancement in the efficiencies of the various removal mechanisms at these elevated temperatures (e.g., volatilization, steam-stripping, hydrolysis, oxidation, pyrolysis) allows us to offer a guarantee of clean-up to even stringent remedial standards.
